Milton Keynes
Those of you who have been members of WU since 2007 may have remembered that my sister and I went to London to see "The Sound of Music" at The Palladium theatre. We promised ourselves to make a trip to London every second year to see a show. This last weekend she came down from Yorkshire on the Sunday and we headed to London on Monday.
We had treated ourselves to first class travel on a Virgin Pendolino train from MK to London.... cost a little more, but the ambiance was much better!!
We took a taxi across London to the Strand Palace Hotel, dumping our bags in the room before dashing downstairs for a fortifying drink in the "bar" !!
We wanted to get out and see the local area and check where the theatre was in relation to the hotel. (I had chosen well, just a five minute stroll around the corner brought us to the Drury Lane Theatre Royal.
All the images are really 'grey', sorry .... the weather for the two days was damp and lacking in sunshine:(

The STRAND - heading back to the hotel - (with sister in shot!) .... double deckers and a red phone box.... it couldn't be anywhere else other than London!
After a late lunch / early dinner we walked down to the river as darkness fell. We walked along the Embankment as I wanted to see the London Eye and practice some night shots.
The River Thames, the London Eye and The Palace of Westminster with Big Ben.
We walked along the Embankment for a fair distance until we had the London Eye almost in front of us for a photo opportunity.... then a quick jog (not literally) back to the hotel for a wash and brush up before heading to the theatre.

The Performance was really wonderful, (sorry, not allowed to take photos inside the theatre.) The only downside was the smoke machine that was reproducing the smog of old London Town! By the end of the performance some folk were coughing!!!
The next morning, still grey and overcast, we went for a wander around. We first wandered over Waterloo Bridge, headign to the south side of the river, so my sister could do her 'Abba' impersonation!! We seemed to be walking in the opposite direction to everyone else, as they headed for the city and work, while we sauntered, enjoying the view!
Waterloo Bridge - buses, taxis bike and pedestrians.
Looking west towards the city of Westminster.
Looking east towards the financial district... St Paul's and the modern 'gherkin' sitting side by side, spanning 450 years.
Once on the south side we walked towards the new jubilee footbridge and admired The Shell Mex House, the Adelphi Hotel, Cleopatra's needle and the Houses of Parliament on the north side.
The Shell Mex House and right on the riverside - Cleopatra's Needle
Westminster Palace (The Houses of Parliament)
Whitehall Court - The National Liberal Club
We crosssed over the river and headed for some colour and cover as it began to rain again - Covent Garden.

And Finally, we did find some colour.... one of the flower stalls outside Covent Garden.

Milton KeynesWhen I went to the bank last week I took a photo of the black horse sculpture outside the building. (The bank has a black horse as its logo.)I cropped the image, cloned some of the leaves behind the horses head and then used something called focal zoom to get this effect.EDIT - after I had posted this header I worked on the horse shot for Surfmom.... this is it. I added one of the creative filters called Pencil crayon. I then "dodged and burned" the im...
