In the tropics, Tropical Depression 14W will continue to move northwest and either make landfall or pass the far northeastern Luzon Thursday. The system is expected to push into the South China Sea Friday. As a result, widespread rainfall with strong wind gusts is expected across Luzon through Friday morning. Areas flooding and mudslides will remain possible. Apart from that, typical summertime thunderstorms are expected across the tropical regions.
Moving to the north, a weak trough of low pressure covering much of Japan will continue to produce scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms across the region Thursday. On the other hand, high pressure will dominate over the Korea Peninsula, providing sunny and mild weather.
Over mainland China, tropical moisture in place should keep scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms going across southern half of the nation.
Monsoon moisture will also bring continued light to moderate rain to Myanmar.
In Australia, a low pressure system near the southwestern corner of the continent will gradually intensify and move east over the next few days. This will result widespread precipitation across Western Australia Thursday, spreading into South Australia Friday. To the east, a weak trough of low pressure will remain nearly stationary across eastern portion of the continent, bringing moderate onshore flow and scattered rain showers to portions of the New South Wales. A ridge of high pressure will keep the central part of Australia mild and dry.
San Xavier Mission Indian village experienced a tornado that moved north, west, then back to the north on this date in 1964. Four places of residence were destroyed and two people were killed, marking the first known fatalities due to a tornado in the state of Arizona.
